Recent reports online are indicating a possible split for long time companions Square Co. and Enix Corporation. Although we at Xbox Freedom have no clear and reputable source for the translation, let’s look at what we have so far.
Reports from a Japanese gaming site, Jin115.com, indicate a possible split from what appears to be a commercial application. For those that do not know, a commercial application is needed to have a company that earns money. While I am working with a translated piece, the reliability of the translation is unknown, though the piece does seem to ask for two commercial licenses; “Square” and “Enix.”
It is unknown what the split will affect, especially with notable games Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution debuting very soon. In the past, the company also was famed game publisher Eidos Interactive, though this was absorbed by Square Enix Europe. This is a tad confusing, as it would not make sense to remove Eidos from the picture completely, though it is a mystery to me as to how the split would be able to evenly share the company (other than simply taking halves), but it could potentially lead to seeing Eidos on it’s own again.
Hopefully, we’ll receive a confirmed report from the company in the near future, but for now we’re going to have to rely on this small tidbit of information. For all we know, this might not even be true, so don’t get too upset about such a great developer splitting up just yet!
